About

Cost of Hiring is an independent editorial project. We publish cost estimates for US employers who need a defensible number before they open a requisition, and we publish the assumptions behind every one of them.

Why this exists

Most hiring cost content is published by companies that want to sell you recruiting, payroll or an employer of record service. The numbers in that content are chosen to support a pitch. We wanted a version with no pitch attached.

How we make money

Display advertising only. No sponsorships, no lead resale, no referral fees, no affiliate commissions. If a staffing firm or benefits broker wants to change what we publish, there is no mechanism for them to do it. The full policy is on our methodology page.

Our network

Cost of Hiring is the third site in a small network of independent cost estimate publications. The others cover security and privacy compliance costs, and cyber insurance premiums. Each site follows the same model: neutral calculators, published assumptions, advertising as the only revenue line.

Who writes this

The site is written and maintained by a small independent editorial team with backgrounds in finance operations, people operations and technical writing. We are not recruiters, brokers or accountants, and nothing here is professional advice.
